Dr. Schanzer is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, American College of Surgeons, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, International Society of Refractive Surgery, and is a member of both medical and ophthalmology components of the Shelby County and American Medical Associations. She is also a founder of the local Catholic Medical Association.
She received her medical degree and Alpha Omega Alpha recognition from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston and performed her residency at Baylor College of Medicine, also in Houston.
In October 2011, Dr. Schanzer received a Humanitarian Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology for her missionary work in Serabu, Sierra Leone, where she established an eye clinic and goes there 2 months out of the year. In addition, she also received a Humanitarian Award in April 2012 from her Alma Mater, the Baylor College of Medicine.
